The Anti- Vacers, Have Invited Me To Become An Anti-People Person!

When walking  the other day I noticed when meeting people I take a wide
berth around them. It was as if the other person was going to strike me or
give me a deadly virus (makes sense). It's sad, I stay at home, I don't go to
large gatherings, I wear my mask, disinfect my hands and have had my
two vaccinations. When I think about what I- see in the newspaper and on
TV--the group gatherings, protesting mask mandates and vaccinations, I feel
anger. It's not just because they cause others to get sick with the COVID
virus but they are preventing thousands of already sick people (non-COVID
related) who are put on waiting lists for surgeries that can't happen because
all the hospitals are filled with COVID patients.

It further occurred to me, while on that same walk, that being antisocial was
really a way of keeping myself and others safe from the virus. It also
occurred to me that in playing it safe and not infecting others, getting my
shots, wearing my mask, sanitizing, not frequenting crowded events, that I
choose to make these sacrifices while others choose not to make sacrifices.
Instead they make up excuses. They choose to "talk about their rights" being
infringed upon or some conspiracy nonsense they read/heard on the Internet
or on conspiracy and ratings driven networks.

There is an old saying, "Don't confuse me with the facts" that I am sure
applies to many who find many non-scientific reasons to resist the health
mandates. However, I am sure that some of the anti-vacers have had a bad
experience with government or the medical system and believe that
somehow those systems benefit from their wearing a mask or getting
vaccinated, so they resist. Some may believe that the science is tainted or an
outright lie and the vaccine will alter their DNA or make it impossible for
them to have children despite the absolute denial and solid proof of those
claims by the scientific community. (I guess the Limbic system- fight or
flight thinking- wins out over the Pre-Frontal Cortex (logic) thinking.)

This dilemma of safety and commonsense versus total self-centeredness is
much like the motorcycle helmet issue. I say, It's okay don't wear a helmet,
but then take responsible for your own medical bills if you are injured while
riding your bike. With vaccination and masks, okay don't wear a mask, don't
get vaccinated but be prepared to pay for your own medical and burial
expenses if and when you get COVID or introduce it into your
family/friends/colleagues/neighbours. The difference of course between
these two examples is that not wearing a helmet puts only the riders life at
risk whereas not wearing a mask or getting vaccinated puts everybody at
risk.

I think it's only fair that you anti-maskers, anti-vaccinators should stay at
home and away from life enhancing activities. I am sick of staying away
from things I love to do so that I don't meet up with you. It's your turn, you
stay at home! But sadly, I already know that you don't care how your
behaviour effects me-your behaviour, your stubborn insistence that your
beliefs are more important than the health of your fellow humans. Your
defiance in the face of scientific proof. If you want to die for your beliefs
I respect that but please don't take your neighbour and their kids with you.

I am very much in favour of all sites outside my home requiring proof of
vaccination and insisting that we wear masks to keep us all safe and to end
this pandemic.

Reader Response after Rant #2   Aug. 20/21

You are not vaccinated, it's your choice, (provided you don't invade my space
and adversely impact me or persons important to me);
                       -----------------------------------
I am vaccinated, respect my choice ...
               -----------------
I'm vaccinated, not to please the government but:
* To not die from Covid-19.
* To NOT clutter a hospital bed if I get sick.
* To hug my loved ones (vaccinated).
* To Not have to do PCR or antigenic tests to go to a dance, go to a restaurant,
go on vacation and many more things to come ...
* To live my life.
* To have my kids/grandkids go back to school and play sports.
* For Covid-19 to be an old memory.
* To protect us.
                     --------------------------
On the other hand, no, I don't know what's in it - neither in this vaccine,
the ones I had as a child, nor in the Big Mac, or in hot dogs, or in other
treatments, whether it's for cancer, AIDS, the one for  polyarthritis, vaccines
for infants or children.

I also don't know what's in Ibuprofen, Tylenol, or other meds, it just cures
my headaches, my pains ...
I don't know what's in the ink for tattoos.

In short ... There's a lot of things I don't know.

I just know one thing: life is short, very short,  so I still want to do
something other than just going to work every day or staying cloistered at home.

I still want to travel and hug people without fear, find a little feeling of
life "before...".

As a child and as an adult I've been vaccinated for mumps, measles, rubella,
polio, chicken pox, yellow fever and a few others; my parents and I trusted
the science and never had to suffer through or transmit any of said diseases
... just saying.

My Family & Friends are my reason!!!

Yes, selfishness is the issue.  It is more prominent in the States because
it's part of their political culture.  "Freedom" means doing whatever you
want to whoever you want.  I subscribe to the theory that ones freedom to
punch ones fist in the air ends where someone else's nose begins
.
